Asphalt Shingle
View PortfolioStandard type asphalt shingle are the item which most of us think of when we think of roofing. It is the product we have all grown up with since the early part of the 20th century. Asphalt shingles were introduced as an alternative to slate, Cedar shingle and “tin” roofing that were the mainstay of the roofing business for hundreds of years. They are a cost effective and durable roofing system, especially today when they are manufactured with modern materials.
Asphalt shingles are manufactured by pouring hot asphalt over a substrate then spreading ceramic granules onto the wet asphalt. For a long time that substrate was cellulose (heavy paper type substance). In the early 80’s, fiberglass began to become accepted as a substrate because of its superior durability and lighter weight. As of today it is still the substrate used on the majority of asphalt shingles manufactured. However there are a growing number of products being offered that use a rubber type material know as SBS Modified. These products offer longer life and warranty, some even going so far as to offer a Lifetime warranty.
So if Asphalt Shingle roof is your choice our consultants can help you through the dizzying array of choices available.
